MINNEAPOLIS, July 20, 2007 - , an accredited* based in Minneapolis, has named Dr. Harry McLenighan as dean of its . Dr. McLenighan, who had been serving as interim dean, has more than 34 years experience as a teacher and administrator in K-12 education, and 15 years as a teacher and administrator in .
As dean, Dr. McLenighan will serve as the chief academic officer of Capella University’s School of Education, which offers three degree programs and 10 specializations. More than 1,000 colleges and universities have employed Capella students or alumni.

I am looking forward to my new role primarily because both the commitment and the team remain intact,” Dr. McLenighan said.
Dr. McLenighan, who joined Capella in 2002, has also served as the online university’s Faculty Chair for Leadership in Educational Administration and as Faculty Director for K-12 Program Development and Delivery.
“Harry was instrumental in helping Capella achieve a significant milestone: state approval for our master of science in education, reading and literacy specialization,” said Dr. Michael Offerman, president of Capella University. “This achievement was unique among online universities in offering a master’s program that has a state-approved specialization in reading and literacy.”
Prior to joining Capella, Dr. McLenighan was a faculty member at the University of St. Thomas, and a site coordinator and faculty member in the principal licensure program at Saint Mary's University of Minnesota. His focus has been to develop tomorrow's educational leaders, specifically aspiring principals and superintendents. In addition to leadership training, Dr. McLenighan has focused on improvement of instructional performance through coaching and assessment.
Recently, Dr. McLenighan's efforts have included the development and delivery of graduate curriculum for K-12 teachers that is designed to foster significant gains in student achievement. Dr. McLenighan is a graduate of the University of Minnesota (BS in English / education) and the University of St. Thomas (MA in English and instruction, doctorate in educational leadership). His academic interests include organizational theory and communication, leadership theory and practice, and classroom teacher training, support and supervision.
